Activision Revealed Call of Duty: Warzone New Map and Confirms 100-Player Limit

In an exciting development for Call of Duty: Warzone enthusiasts, Activision has released a comprehensive video detailing the evolution of the game's latest map. Notably, the battle royale mode accompanying this map will now accommodate a reduced player count of 100 combatants, a departure from the established 150-player format that has been in place since the game's launch in March 2020.

The unveiling of the new Urzikstan map and the confirmation of the adjusted player count came through a pre-launch message from developer Raven Software. This announcement is part of the Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 update set to go live on Wednesday.

Raven Software justified the reduction in player count, stating,

"Our top priority is creating an optimal and fun experience for all of our players based on critical metrics."

These metrics encompass various aspects such as time-to-action, map size, circle timings, total match time (capped at 20 minutes), red dots, contracts, and a range of second-chance mechanics. The aim is to strike a balance that delivers phases of fair infiltration and looting, healthy mid-game engagements, and a thrilling end-game climax where the ultimate victors emerge.

The developers expressed their commitment to closely monitoring community sentiment and internal data, pledging to make necessary adjustments over time to enhance player experience.

Urzikstan, the new map, features 11 major points of interest and shares its borders with the Republic of Adal, home to Warzone's Al Mazrah map launched in the previous year with Modern Warfare 2. Raven Software disclosed that Urzikstan is approximately 20% smaller than Al Mazrah, setting the stage for more intense and dynamic gameplay.

The map sizes, as reported by CharlieIntel, are as follows:

  • Al Mazrah: 7,095,838 m²

  • Urzikstan: To be officially announced

  • Caldera: 6,405,025 m²

  • Verdansk: 5,835,157 m²

  • Vondel: 2,457,056 m²

  • Fortune’s Keep: 240,790 m²

  • Ashika Island: 222,002 m²

  • Rebirth: 152,865 m²

Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 is slated for a simultaneous launch across all platforms on December 6 at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET / 5 pm GMT / 6 pm CET.

This update not only introduces the eagerly awaited new map but also ushers in a plethora of content across Warzone's three online pillars—multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone. Enthusiasts can look forward to three fresh 6v6 multiplayer maps, the return of popular modes like Gunfight, All or Nothing, Infected, and Headquarters, alongside a new Zombies story act and Dark Aether Rifts. The diverse offerings promise an engaging and immersive experience for players across the board.
