To solve the Enclave Library Rune Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need the Rune of the Wolf. It's like a piece of a puzzle. You have to find different things during a quest to finish the puzzle and get the final prize.

This guide helps you find the Rune of the Wolf in Baldur’s Gate 3 and tells you how to use it.

Obtaining the Rune of the Wolf in Baldur's Gate 3 is simple. This vital rune is held by an NPC named Rath, who can be located in a chamber prior to the Enclave Library. In BG3, there are three ways to obtain the Rune of the Wolf, all of which revolve around Rath:

  • Stealing it from Rath.

  • Completing the Grove questline.

  • Killing Rath in combat.

Stealing It from Rath

The first approach is the simplest: steal the Rune from Rath with a stealthy character like Astarion. Caution is required here, as being caught may result in a confrontation.

When Rath is not facing you, use Astarion's Stealth ability in Baldur's Gate 3. This approach is the quickest way to obtain the Rune of the Wolf from Rath. You can steal the Rune from Rath's pocket by quietly placing yourself behind him.

Completing the Grove Quest line

A critical step in obtaining the Rune of the Wolf is the rescue of Halsin. Are you curious about Halsin's fate? Your first expedition took you to Druid Grove in search of his recruiting. Unfortunately, he was captured and imprisoned by the Goblin Leaders within their camp.

Your assignment sends you to the Goblin Camp, where you must rescue a bear from a series of goblin attacks. After defeating the goblin army, the saved bear reveals himself to be Halsin in disguise. Retrace your steps to Druid Grove and speak with Halsin once he has joined your team. Halsin will direct you to Rath and suggest a meeting. Rath will reward you with the Rune of the Wolf after this exchange.

Although a more time-consuming strategy, rescuing Wood Elf Halsin from the Goblin camp reaps significant dividends. Bringing Halsin back to Druid Grove not only earns you the Rune of the Wolf from Rath, but it also sets the stage for Halsin to eventually join your company as your trip progresses.

Killing Rath in Combat

The Rune of the Wolf can also be obtained by defeating Rath and his group in BG3. This can be difficult and time-consuming. When you win, you can remove the rune from Rath's possessions.

However, we strongly advise against using this strategy. It's not because it's horrible, but because it could have an impact on your future adventures. If none of the other options work, killing Rath is your last resort. You can just take the Rune of the Wolf from him after defeating him. However, doing so will enrage everyone in Druid Grove and will ruin the Grove's tale.

Step 2: Once you have the Rune of the Wolf, go to the Enclave Library located in the inner sanctum.

Step 3: Inside the Enclave Library, you'll see a wolf statue surrounded by four stone pedestals. One of these pedestals has an empty socket.

Step 4: Interact with the empty socket and place the Rune of the Wolf into it.

Step 5: After slotting in the rune, touch each of the pedestals in any order. This will light up the pedestals and cause the wolf statue to descend, revealing a hidden floor with spiral stairs leading to a vault.

Step 6: In the hidden vault, you'll find scrolls and items to loot. Look for a stone table and take the unique glaive called Sorrow.

Step 7: Sorrow has a special skill called Ensnaring Strike, which can trap your target with thorny vines. Be aware that using this weapon comes with a drawback: the wielder takes 1 Psychic damage whenever they deal damage.

Step 8: There's also a piece of clothing called the Robe of Summer in the vault. This robe grants resistance to cold damage to the wearer.

That's all there is to obtaining and using the Rune of the Wolf in Baldur's Gate 3.
