Capcom surprised fans by revealing the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, an updated version of the popular zombie action game. The exciting news was revealed in a teaser trailer, which can be viewed below.
The Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which will be available on the latest gaming systems, promises "an updated release with a brand new look."
The original Dead Rising game, developed by Capcom Japan and produced by Keiji Inafune, made its debut in 2006. It was later given an HD remake in 2016, which brought the original game to more modern platforms. The game centers on Frank West, a photojournalist who becomes stuck in a zombie-infested shopping mall in the fictional town of Willamette, Colorado.
The Dead Rising series has had multiple sequels. Blue Castle Games' initial sequel led to the firm being acquired and renamed Capcom Vancouver in 2010, after Dead Rising 2 was completed. Capcom Vancouver continued to develop Dead Rising sequels, including Dead Rising 2: Off the Record in 2011, Dead Rising 3 (which debuted alongside the Xbox One in 2013), and Dead Rising 4 (2016).
Unfortunately, Capcom announced the closing of Capcom Vancouver in September 2018, resulting in the cancelation of several in-development projects.
Despite this, the Dead Rising franchise has remained popular, with 16 million units sold by March 2024. Capcom defines the series as a zombie action story in which players must "fend off hordes of zombies by any means necessary and uncover the truth behind the horrific incident that started the zombie outbreak."
Since its initial release in August 2006, Dead Rising has been acclaimed for its violent action and funny tone, confirming its place as a gaming fan favorite.
