Remedy Entertainment has shared new details about Control Resonant, the upcoming sequel to the hit supernatural game Control. After showing gameplay during PlayStation’s State of Play event, the developers recently gave a deeper look at the game’s story, combat, and world design.

According to creative director Mikael Kasurinen and lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov, the new game is designed as an action RPG, giving players more freedom in how they build their character and fight enemies.

Here’s everything we learned about Control Resonant.

Dylan Faden Is the New Main Character in Control Resonant

In the first Control, players took control of Jesse Faden, the director of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). The plot of Control Resonant revolves around her brother, Dylan Faden.

Dylan is among the most powerful characters in the Control universe. However, he has a troubled past. In the first game, he was taken over by a hostile entity known as The Hiss and eventually fell into a coma.

In the sequel, Dylan awakens to a dramatically altered world. Supernatural forces are attacking Manhattan, and Dylan must learn to control his abilities while searching for his missing sister. Jesse will appear in the story, but she will not be playable this time.

The Game Moves From the Oldest House to Manhattan

The first Control took place mostly inside the mysterious Oldest House, the headquarters of the FBC. Control Resonant moves the action outside into Manhattan, where strange paranormal events are spreading across the city.

The FBC has divided the city into different zones to manage the crisis. Each area will have its own missions, secrets, and challenges.

Remedy says the world is designed to be smaller but more detailed, so players won’t feel overwhelmed by too many map icons or repetitive tasks.

Players will find:

  • Main story missions called Dylan’s Journey

  • World Quests with separate stories

  • Combat encounters and puzzles

  • Hidden secrets and lore

New Character Zoe De Vera

One significant new character is Zoe De Vera, an FBC field agent who collaborates with Dylan. Zoe serves as Dylan's handler and guides him through missions. Dylan spent years locked inside the Oldest House, so Zoe is often more aware of what is going on in the outside world.

Their relationship is a key part of the story, as they gradually learn to trust one another. The game also features a dynamic dialogue system, which allows conversations to take place while exploring the city rather than interrupting gameplay.

Fast and Aggressive Combat in Control Resonant

Combat in Control Resonant focuses heavily on melee fighting and supernatural abilities.

Dylan uses a special transforming weapon called the Aberrant, which can change into different forms for different attack styles.

The combat system rewards aggressive gameplay:

  • Melee attacks build energy

  • Abilities stun enemies

  • Executions increase damage

The more aggressively players fight, the stronger Dylan becomes during combat. Interestingly, the game does not include a traditional parry system. Instead, players can perform a last-second dodge that slows time for a moment, giving them a chance to react.

Different Builds and Playstyles in Control Resonant

Control Resonant also introduces deeper customization. Players can build Dylan in different ways depending on their preferred playstyle. Some builds focus on strong close-range attacks, while others use abilities and summons.

For example, players can summon floating Mold Turrets that automatically shoot enemies while Dylan fights in close combat.

Players can also gain new powers by defeating powerful enemies called Resonants, which act like mini-bosses.

The Gap: A Strange Upgrade Area in Control Resonant

Progression in the game happens inside a mysterious place called The Gap.

The Gap represents Dylan’s mind and acts as a hub where players can upgrade abilities and customize their builds.

Players can improve three main things:

  • Supernatural abilities

  • Aberrant weapon forms

  • Talents that improve combat synergy

Not everything can be unlocked in one playthrough, which encourages replaying the game with different builds.

The Weird World of Control Resonant

One thing fans loved about the first game was its strange supernatural objects called Altered Items. These objects behave in bizarre ways, like a refrigerator that kills anyone who stops looking at it or a rubber duck that teleports around.

Control Resonant will continue this idea, filling the world with strange paranormal events that twist reality and turn normal places into dangerous combat zones.

Release Date and Platforms of Control Resonant

Control Resonant is currently planned to release in 2026.

The game will be available on:

  • PC (Steam and Epic Games Store)

  • Mac

  • PlayStation 5

  • Xbox Series X|S

The series appears to be taking a significant step forward with Control Resonant. Remedy is attempting to make the sequel larger and more dynamic than the original by adding a new protagonist, expanding the world, deepening combat, and increasing customization.

If the studio can maintain the strange atmosphere and storytelling that made Control unique, Control Resonant has the potential to be one of the most exciting action RPGs of 2026.
