Dave Bautista Reportedly in Talks to Replace Ryan Hurst as Kratos in Amazon's God of War TV Series

Amazon's upcoming God of War live-action TV series is reportedly undergoing a major casting change, with actor Dave Bautista emerging as the front-runner to play Kratos after Ryan Hurst left the project due to an injury.

According to recent reports, Hurst tore his bicep while filming the first season, requiring surgery and a lengthy recovery period. The production could not wait for his return, so Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television reportedly decided to recast the lead role. Several scenes featuring Hurst as Kratos have already been filmed and are set to be reshot with the new actor.

Bautista has emerged as the reported frontrunner, thanks to his successful transition from professional wrestling to Hollywood. The actor has appeared in several major films, including Guardians of the Galaxy, Dune, Blade Runner 2049, and Spectre. His physical presence and experience in action roles have made him a popular fan favorite for Kratos for several years.

The production has also sparked speculation about additional cast changes. Earlier reports indicated that Amazon was looking for older actors to play Atreus and Thrud after new casting notices appeared. However, more recent updates indicate that Callum Vinson will continue to play Atreus, and no official confirmation has been made regarding additional recasts.

Despite the setback, Amazon remains committed to the adaptation, having reportedly ordered two seasons of the series. An official release date has not been set, as filming must resume with the new actor cast as Kratos.

While Amazon has not confirmed Bautista's casting, his reported involvement has sparked renewed interest among fans eager to see one of PlayStation's most iconic characters brought to life. More official updates are expected once production resumes.
