Archetype Entertainment has released a brand-new trailer for Exodus The Rise of Jun Aslan at The Game Awards, giving fans the most detailed preview so far of this aspiring sci-fi action RPG. The trailer showcases intense combat, strange alien environments, and genetically modified humans. While *Exodus* might seem like a fantasy game at first, the developers emphasize that it’s rooted in hard science fiction.
The game is set to launch in early 2027 and marks Archetype Entertainment’s first major title. The studio is a new venture from Wizards of the Coast, created by experienced developers from BioWare, Naughty Dog, Blizzard, and 343 Industries.
Exodus Hard Sci-Fi Universe Inspired by Real Science
Exodus happens tens of thousands of years later, after humans are forced to leave Earth due to a major disaster in the 23rd century. The survivors travel on huge arkships, passing through many generations, until they reach Omega Centauri, the biggest known globular cluster in the Milky Way, which is about 16,000 light-years away from Earth.
When new human groups arrive around the year 18,000, many advanced societies have already appeared and disappeared. The main species in this far future is a group of human descendants that have been heavily genetically modified, known as the Celestials. These beings are so changed from humans that they look very different.
According to narrative director Drew Karpyshyn, who worked on Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the Celestials see the later arriving humans as primitive and less advanced, leading to a dangerous and tense conflict between the two groups.
Exodus The Rise of Jun Aslan Story and Gameplay
Players take the role of Jun Aslan, a Traveler—an experienced explorer who undertakes risky missions throughout the galaxy. To travel between star systems, Travelers have to move at nearly the speed of light, which causes extreme time differences.
For Jun, a mission might take just a few days, but back home, years or even decades could have passed. When players return, they might find that the world has changed completely: friends and family could be gone, relationships might be different, and political situations could be entirely new.
These time shifts are central to the game’s system of choices and consequences.
Major decisions happen across different chapters and acts, rather than during everyday gameplay.
Player Choice, Companions, and Combat Freedom
Exodus combines fast-paced combat with RPG-style choices. Players can approach battles using stealth or direct attacks, and both approaches work just as well.

Jun is accompanied by a small team of companions—four have been confirmed so far—whose lives and personalities shift as Jun goes on missions. These changing dynamics open up new side quests, background stories, and lasting effects that influence the overall story.
Matthew McConaughey Returns as a Key Character
The new trailer also shows more of Matthew McConaughey's mysterious character, C.C. Orlev, a confusing figure who seems to help Jun at important times. McConaughey first introduced the game at The Game Awards 2023, and people immediately compared it to Interstellar and Mass Effect.
A New Sci-Fi RPG to Watch
Wizards of the Coast president John Hight added that the game looks at a future where technology has given humans almost godlike powers—but at a big price. Archetype VP Chad Robinson said as;
“Exodus is a story about humanity’s resilience and the heroism that comes out in our darkest moments,”
Exodus The Rise of Jun Aslan is scheduled to release in early 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
