The developers of God of War Ragnarok announced the release of a free downloadable content (DLC) expansion titled "Valhalla" at The Game Awards. This new update which is planned to be released on December 12, 2023, is designed to provide players with a unique and immersive experience.

Valhalla, positioned as an epilogue to the critically acclaimed God of War Ragnarok, promises to take players on a profound and contemplative journey alongside Kratos, the renowned protagonist. The teaser for the game depicts the story as a deeply personal quest unfolding in the legendary realm of Valhalla, with Kratos pursuing a future he never imagined.

"Embark with Kratos to Valhalla on a deeply personal and reflective journey towards a future he never thought possible," according to the trailer's description. The game is set to deliver a developing experience that mixes God of War Ragnarok's popular fighting systems with new elements inspired by the roguelite genre.

Grace Orlady, Santa Monica Studio's main community manager, expressed gratitude for the game's amazing support since its first release. As a thank you, she revealed a surprise gift for fans in the shape of free DLC - God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla.

"As fans of our fans, we're thrilled to announce that on December 12, we'll be releasing a free DLC as a gift to our players - God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla," Orlady wrote in a blog post.

Valhalla is planned to depart from the main God of War series' usual gameplay style, with a major emphasis on rogue-like features. Orlady noted that the Santa Monica Studio development team set out to create a gaming experience unlike anything else experienced in the God of War realm.

"God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla celebrates the combat you know and love from God of War Ragnarök and blends it with fresh, experimental elements inspired by the roguelite genre," Orlady went on to say. Players may expect to master different components of Kratos' arsenal with each attempt, while dealing with a variety of foes and unexpected challenges along the way.

As the release date approaches, gamers' excitement for this unexpected and exhilarating addition to the God of War series grows.
