S-Game has finally unveiled Phantom Blade Zero with a stunning new trailer at The Game Awards 2025, revealing that the highly anticipated action-adventure game would be released on September 9, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC via Steam.
Phantom Blade Zero, which combines classic Wuxia drama with blisteringly quick combat and is driven by the visual quality of Unreal Engine 5, is one of 2026's best action releases.
In Phantom Blade Zero, players take on the role of Soul, an elite assassin betrayed by his own organization, The Order. Soul is healed by a mysterious healer after being framed for murdering its leader and nearly killed during the ensuing manhunt — but the cure has a harsh deadline: he only has 66 days to live.
What's his mission? Unmask the mastermind behind the plan and forge a violent path through assassins, demons, and mystical forces before time runs out.
Phantom Blade Zero New Trailer Featuring Combat, Bosses, and Wild Visuals
The new Game Awards teaser reveals everything fans have been looking for:
Rapid swordplay and stunning combos
A large spear, hook swords, and other new weaponry.
Drunken Fist martial arts combined with flying sword techniques.
A massive ogre-like boss with chained weapons.
Cinematic cutscenes with hidden enemies, kidnappings, and weird monsters.
S-Game characterizes the game's style as "Kungfupunk" – a hybrid of Wuxia, steampunk, dark fantasy, and high-speed hack-and-slash gameplay.
Not a Soulslike—but Close Enough to Excite Fans
Though many fans compare Phantom Blade Zero to Sekiro, Wo Long, or Where Winds Meet, S-Game emphasises that the game is not a Soulslike, but rather a fast-paced action title with fluid, combo-heavy gameplay inspired by great martial-arts films from the 1980s and 1990s.
The developers believe that, despite their complexity, the controls would be intuitive due to their experience building action systems for mobile platforms.
A Huge World Inspired by Wuxia Legends and Dark Souls
Players will travel through a fully integrated universe with many different areas rooted in Wuxia mythology and supernatural challenges. Previous previews have featured horrifying antagonists such as the Seven Judgements, a puppetmaster who directs waves of enemies in deadly choreographed formations.
The main storyline will take 20-30 hours to complete, with additional side quests and replay possibilities for those looking to perfect the fighting mechanics.
Rebooting the Phantom Series and Recreating Wuxia Action Games
Phantom Blade Zero expands S-Game's Phantom brand by recreating the original Rainblood game with modern technology, a deeper plot, and a more diverse environment. From laser-fast sword duels to ceramic-doll body horror changes, the game promises to be surprising, stylish, and brutally intense.
Phantom Blade Zero launches on September 9, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC (Steam).
