is planning to phase out player-to-player item trading  which has already caused outrage among fans, who have gone to social media and online petitions to express their disappointment.

The announcement was announced on the official Rocket League website on October 10. It said that this feature would be deactivated on December 5, but assured players that existing deals would be impacted. The Rocket League community, which has greatly relied on this trading system, has reacted strongly to this news.

The game's creator Psyonix  confirmed the move  claiming alignment with the policies of its parent company, Epic Games, as the basis for the decision. Epic Games known for titles like as Fortnite has a strong policy against in-game item trading stating that assets must not be tradable  transferrable, or sellable.

According to Psyonix, the elimination of the feature opens the door for potential integration with other Epic Games products. This is referred to as "cross-game ownership," and it refers to a future link between Rocket League and other Epic Games products.

The Rocket League subreddit has turned into an area of discontent with multiple posts receiving significant upvotes and all criticising the decision. AllStreetsEnd, a Reddit member joked, "You know an idea is terrible when a lot of people's first reaction is 'ha, that's a wild joke.'" It's simply incredibly depressing because, while I don't trade, I know it's a passion for some people. This is literally spitting in the face of a large segment of the community. Style has always been an important aspect of this game but hey we can still buy it from Epic for $19.99, am I right?"

"This is the worst decision any game could make," user cyne_wave complained. Do you have any idea what Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2 have achieved with their item markets? Trading is what gave birth to an entire subgenre in this community."

"They're taking away trading because it kills their sales, and that's the only reason," HawaiianSurfer said. Instead than purchasing a costly 2000-credit mystery decal, gamers can get it for a fraction of the price from other players. By removing the consumer-to-consumer economy, they are forcing gamers to buy any products they want from Rocket League's shop at full price."
