World of Demons, an Apple Arcade game from PlatinumGames, is scheduled to end its operation on January 18, 2024, and will no longer be accessible for download. The statement was made via an official game blog post, thanking all of the players who have had fun with the experience since its original release.
World of Demons, an action game with a "magnificent visual style," is said to be inspired by Japanese woodblock prints, namely ukiyo-e and sumi-e. There are clear visual echoes of PlatinumGames co-founder Hideki Kamiya's iconic Capcom film Okami. Take on the role of the samurai Onimaru and explore graphically breathtaking settings, meet allies among the samurai, and battle against formidable yokai, each with their own special moves and combo options.
It's interesting to note that after being defeated, the yokai, who are initially portrayed as adversaries, become allies. These newfound companions use their unique skills to help players with a variety of tasks, improving the overall gaming experience.
Co-founder and former director Hideki Kamiya announced his wish for a new gaming-related chance in a separate PlatinumGames-related development, joking that he wants the new job to "have a meal." Renowned for his sharp observations and quirky online persona, Kamiya left the Japanese production company the year before. As Platinum's vice president and the primary creative force behind well-known series like Bayonetta and Astral Chain, Kamiya was a key figure before he left. With his departure, the studio underwent a major change, and fans wondered where PlatinumGames would go without such a prominent person.
