Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator of former Yakuza and Like a Dragon, has officially announced his new project, Gang of Dragon, during a world premiere at The Game Awards 2025. The first game from Nagoshi Studio is said to be “deep into development” and instantly caught attention because of its strong resemblance to Sega's well-known gangster series, though it has a more realistic and grounded feel.
The cinematic preview showed intense street fights, stressful bar encounters, and dramatic brawls, all set in what looks like Kabukicho in Shinjuku, Tokyo. While Nagoshi's previous games used the fictional Kamurocho, it's not yet clear if Gang of Dragon will take place in a real-life version of the area.
The game features acclaimed South Korean-American actor Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee, who has appeared in films like Train to Busan, The Outlaws, and Marvel’s Eternals. His character is shown as a powerful and determined figure, enduring injuries like stabbing, gunfire, and violent scenes without showing fear—something that fits perfectly with Nagoshi’s operatic style.
In a past interview, Nagoshi assured fans that while the game isn’t a direct follow-up to Like a Dragon, it will still show his unique personality and use cinematic storytelling. Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards, mentioned that all the footage shown was captured using the game’s engine.
Gang of Dragon has not yet announced a release date or specific platforms, but its reveal has already made it one of the most highly anticipated action games from a legendary creator.
