God of War Trilogy Remake Confirmed, New 2D Game Out Now on PS5

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio have officially confirmed that a God of War Trilogy Remake is in development. The announcement was made during the latest State of Play presentation.

The remake is bringing back the classic Greek-era games—God of War, God of War II, and God of War III—for today's platforms. But it's still early days and we haven't seen any gameplay footage yet. The studio is asking fans to hang tight and promises to share more info when the time is right.

Alongside the remake announcement, Sony also surprise-launched a brand-new spin-off titled God of War: Sons of Sparta. The game was developed in partnership with Mega Cat Studios and is available now on PlayStation 5.

Sons of Sparta is a 2D side-scrolling action game set during Kratos’ early years. The story focuses on his harsh training in Sparta alongside his brother Deimos. The game is said to be canon and was written with support from the team behind God of War Ragnarök.

Even though it uses a 2D style, the game keeps the series’ fast combat. Players use spear and shield attacks, unlock special abilities called the Gifts of Olympus, and fight enemies inspired by Greek mythology. TC Carson also returns to voice Kratos as the narrator.

Sons of Sparta is priced at $29.99, with a Digital Deluxe Edition available for $39.99.

The news comes as PlayStation celebrates the 20th anniversary of the God of War series, showing that Kratos’ Greek saga is far from finished.
