Sony will kick off the summer gaming season with a major PlayStation State of Play presentation later today, giving PS5 owners a closer look at some of the most anticipated games currently in development. The showcase is expected to last more than an hour and will include new trailers, gameplay reveals, PlayStation Studios updates, and a number of surprises from developers around the world. With Summer Game Fest week officially underway many fans regard this event as one of Sony's most significant gaming presentations of the year.

The focus will definitely be on Marvel's Wolverine, Insomniac Games' upcoming superhero action game. Sony has already confirmed that Wolverine will receive a lengthy preview, including new gameplay footage and details, ahead of its planned release later this year. Following the massive success of Insomniac's Spider-Man series, Wolverine is expected to be one of the most important PlayStation exclusives of the future.

Beyond Wolverine, Sony has been tight-lipped about the rest of the lineup, but speculation has grown. Fans are hoping for an update on Naughty Dog's highly anticipated sci-fi adventure Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which has been mostly absent since its initial announcement. Other possible appearances include Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Haven Studios' multiplayer title Fairgame$, and possibly the next installment in the God of War franchise, which has been the subject of numerous rumors in recent months.

While surprises are possible some games are unlikely to appear. Rockstar Games is not expected to reveal any new Grand Theft Auto 6 details at the event, and there is currently no indication that projects like Hogwarts Legacy 2 or a new Destiny title will make an appearance. Regardless, Sony has promised over 60 minutes of announcements and gameplay reveals, so PlayStation fans have plenty of reasons to tune in.

The PlayStation State of Play will air live on PlayStation's official YouTube and Twitch channels on June 2 at 5 PM ET, 2 PM PT, 10 PM BST, and 11 PM CEST. As the first major showcase of Summer Game Fest Week, the presentation has the potential to set the tone for the gaming industry's busiest month of announcements and reveals.
