Remedy Entertainment has revealed Control Resonant during The Game Award 2025, the much-anticipated follow-up to their 2019 game Control. The game was introduced with an impressive trailer, and it brings new elements to the Remedy Connected Universe. It features a new main character, an updated combat system, and a vast, reality-altering world.

Set seven years after the events of Control, Control Resonant moves away from the claustrophobic Oldest House and into an open, distorted version of Manhattan. The player takes on the role of Dylan Faden, Jesse Faden’s troubled brother. Previously held arrested by the Federal Bureau of Control, Dylan is now free and has become the Bureau's greatest weapon in the fight against an increase cosmic danger.

Unlike the original game's focus on shooting design, Control Resonant is more of an action-RPG that feature fighting up close. Dylan uses a special weapon called the Aberrant, which can change shape and combines powerful melee attacks with basic abilities and the power to destroy parts of the environment. Remedy describes the combat as fast-paced and flexible, pushing players to adjust to unpredictable enemies and strange, physics-defying situations.

Manhattan is shown as a place where normal rules don't apply. A powerful cosmic force has twisted gravity, broken natural laws, and neutered reality itself. Players will explore strange, mind-bending locations and enter a mysterious, supernatural world that mirrors Dylan's broken mind. The game also has a deep progression system that lets players develop their abilities based on their choices, offering suggestive ways to customize both combat and exploration.

Control Resonant is directed by Mikael Kasurinen, who has been with Remedy for a long time, and it is being jointly funded and produced by Annapurna Pictures as part of their continued strategic partnership. Kasurinen describes the game as;

“Control Resonant pushes our paranatural action RPG series into an expansive, reality-warping playground of choice, power, and consequence.You don’t have to know the first game to jump into the sequel; we’ve made this one easy to pick up and hard to put down. We’re pushing the scale beyond anything we’ve done before, elevating combat, exploration, and storytelling into a bigger, more memorable experience. It’s ambitious, a little wild, and we can’t wait for players to get lost in it.”

The sequel visually and thematically takes surrealism even further, with Remedy mentioning Neon Genesis Evangelion as a major inspiration for its broken world and haunting atmosphere.

Control Resonant is set to release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), and Mac (through Steam and Apple App Store). It promises a larger, more bizarre, and more intense expansion of the Control universe.
