The Outer Worlds 2 Development Sees Fallout Creator Tim Cain in a Consultative Role

Notable game creator Tim Cain, known for being the brains behind the Fallout series has surfaced as an important advisor on The Outer Worlds 2 it has been revealed. Renowned for his contributions to the post-apocalyptic role-playing game series, Cain collaborated with Obsidian on the eagerly awaited sequel and shared his thoughts with Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

Although he would not discuss specifics on the follow-up, Cain did reveal that he was working on issues that were similar to those he has worked on in the past. As he put it,

"There’s stuff they’re trying to do in the sequel, that of course I can’t talk about, that I get pulled in on because it’s similar to stuff I’ve done in the past."

He underlined his guiding role, warning the development team against possible errors and outlining significant challenges they would face.

During the conversation, Cain, who previously collaborated with Leonard Boyarsky on the critically acclaimed first game, hailed one of the Obsidian team members. It looks that this team member fixed a problem that Cain had been having ever since he started working on the Fallout series. Cain said, expressing his respect,

“I not only told him how impressed I was, I found my notes from 28 years before. I said, ‘Let me read you a few lines from a production meeting in July of ‘95…’”

In 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 made its formal debut alongside a teaser trailer that acknowledged the game's early development status. The clip, which simply shows the game's logo, is still the most recent significant information Obsidian has provided on the follow-up. While the studio's main emphasis is presently on Avowed, a fantasy role-playing game that is set to release in 2024, excitement is still building for both Obsidian's newest project and The Outer Worlds 2. The latter is anticipated to debut on a number of platforms, such as Xbox Game Pass, PC, and consoles.
