Xbox has acknowledged an ongoing issue affecting some Forza Horizon 6 players, with reports of corrupted save files, lost progress, and unexpected save resets appearing throughout the community. The problem first surfaced earlier this month, when several players claimed to have lost dozens, if not hundreds, of hours of gameplay progress. Both Team Xbox and the Forza support team say they are actively investigating the situation and developing updates to reduce the risk of future save-related issues.

The Forza Horizon 6 team has confirmed that they are looking into an issue that is causing some players to lose game progress or have their save files reset. Developers are currently gathering reports from affected players to better understand what is causing the issue.

Although the exact cause of the bug remains unknown, Microsoft has already begun rolling out a new Xbox system update to help improve save data management. The company says more fixes are being developed as the investigation continues.

Microsoft has begun rolling out fixes for PC players via its Gaming Services client to help fix the save file issues that have affected some Forza Horizon 6 users. The company claims that these updates are the first step toward resolving the issue, with additional improvements and fixes planned as developers continue to test and investigate the problem.

For all Forza Horizon 6 players, it is recommended that you follow these guidelines as a general "rule of thumb" to reduce the risk of progress or save loss:

  • Ensure your Gaming Services app on PC or XBOX Series X|S console is fully up to date.

  • On XBOX Series X|S consoles, disable Quick Resume for Forza Horizon 6.

  • To disable Forza Horizon 6 from using Quick Resume, highlight the game box art anywhere in the console experience (Home, My Games & Apps, Pins, etc) and then press the Menu button, then go to Manage game and add-ons > Quick Resume settings > Disable Quick Resume.

  • Ensure you are online when ‘quitting’ the game.

  • Give your save time to sync to the cloud before powering off or switching devices.

  • Do not force quit the game during save screens.

  • Do not power off the device during gameplay.

  • If you receive an "Out of space" pop up with a game crash, it is recommended that you check your storage and restart your console via the menu option or XBOX controller button.

Players who regularly switch between devices, whether it's from one console to another, or between different PCs, Steam and Cloud Gaming, should take additional care.

  • Always "Quit" (console) or "Exit to desktop" (PC) once you've finished your play session, ensuring the save icon is not visible when you’re closing the game.

  • Before turning off your console, shutting down your PC or force closing the Steam app, give your devices or clients at least a few minutes to ensure your latest progress has been synchronized with the cloud. This will reduce the risk of progress reversions as you switch between different platforms. XBOX Series X|S consoles, Steam and the XBOX app on PC all include game save indicators that confirm your progress has been synced.

While Xbox investigates the save file issue, players are encouraged to take the correct steps to reduce the risk of losing progress. With fixes already available for PC and Xbox, the company hopes to fully resolve the issue in future updates and restore confidence among affected Forza Horizon 6 players.
