Fans of James Bond for Nintendo Switch 2 will have to wait a little longer. IO Interactive, the studio behind the popular Hitman franchise has revealed that the Switch 2 version of its upcoming game 007 First Light will be delayed until later this summer.
The delay does not effect the game's release on other platforms. 007 First Light is still set to debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on May 27, 2026, having being delayed from its original March 27 release date.
IO Interactive posted an update on the official 007 First Light account on X, confirming the planned release schedule.
“007 First Light comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on May 27, 2026, and Nintendo Switch 2 later this summer. We’re excited to see players discovering James Bond’s reimagined origin story and are committed to delivering the best possible experience across all platforms.”
The studio stated that the extra time will ensure that Switch 2 players receive a polished version of the game that meets the high quality standards expected of a James Bond experience.
What to Expect in 007 First Light
007 First Light is an origin story about a young James Bond's first mission with MI6. Players will take on the role of Patrick Gibson, a 26-year-old Bond who must complete a critical mission to earn his 00 status.
Gemma Chan plays Dr. Selina Tan, a key MI6 analyst with expertise in psychology and game theory. Players will meet familiar characters like M and Q, as well as new ones including a villain played by Lenny Kravitz.
IO Interactive CEO and game director Hakan Abrak described the project as the studio's most ambitious yet:
“The team is fully focused on delivering an unforgettable James Bond experience, with action, spycraft, gadgets, car chases, and globe-trotting missions. This delay allows us to refine and polish the game, ensuring the strongest possible launch version.”
Delays in Switch 2 ports of AAA games are common. Borderlands 4 and Elden Ring have also experienced delays on the console, while Resident Evil Requiem, and Pragmata launched on time. Capcom in particular appears to have figured out a formula for timely Switch 2 releases.
For the time being, Switch 2 owners will have to be patient, but when it does arrive, 007 First Light promises a high-octane cinematic James Bond adventure unlike anything seen on Nintendo's next-generation console.
