Fans of the Alien franchise are getting back into the fight. Daybreak Game Company and Cold Iron Studios have officially announced Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, the next installment in the popular co-op survival shooter series. The announcement was made alongside a debut trailer featuring intense xenomorph action, cinematic moments, and the first look at gameplay.
The trailer quickly gained popularity online, garnering hundreds of thousands of views in its first day and creating interest among long-time fans of the sci-fi horror franchise.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Story and Gameplay
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 takes players to the dangerous planet LV558 and its colony settlement, Stores Boon. The colony has been ruined by a massive xenomorph outbreak, trapping survivors and forcing them to fight for survival as chaos spreads throughout the area.
Players will take on the role of Fireteam Chimaera, an elite squad sent to combat the alien threat and save survivors. Dr. Lily Pierce issues an emergency distress call, warning that the colony is rapidly running out of breathable air. The sequel promises darker environments, larger battles, and an even more intense survival experience set in the Alien universe.
New Co-Op and Customization Options
One of the most major shifts in the sequel is the shift from three- to four-player co-op gameplay. The new system enables squads to coordinate more tactical strategies while facing larger waves of xenomorph enemies. Cold Iron Studios also confirmed major boosts in customization. Players will be able to combine weapons, abilities, and class builds to create more unique combat styles.
A new customizable "Specialist" class is also being introduced, giving players more flexibility in creating their ideal Colonial Marine.
Game director Chris Cross stated that the team wanted to push both the horror and action elements in the sequel.
“With Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, we’re doubling down on the action and the terror, delivering an experience worthy of the Alien franchise.”
He also noted that the studio’s passion for the Alien universe played a huge role in shaping the sequel’s direction.
Aliens Franchise Celebrates 40 Years
The release of Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 comes as the franchise approaches a turning point. In 2026, James Cameron's legendary 1986 film Aliens will celebrate its 40th anniversary, and the new game, according to the publishers, is intended to pay tribute to the series' legacy.
John Drake, General Manager of 20th Century Games, described the sequel as a tribute to the franchise's iconic blend of action and survival horror.
"We’re delivering the chaos of a Colonial Marine bug hunt with the terror and challenge of overcoming an overwhelming enemy.”
The anniversary celebrations have already revived interest in Alien games, with a recent teaser for a sequel to Alien: Isolation.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Release Date and Platform
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 will be released this summer for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The developers have yet to announce an exact release date, but more gameplay details and updates are expected in the coming months.
The original Aliens: Fireteam Elite was popular due to its fast-paced co-op action and authentic Alien atmosphere.
