Rumors of a remake of Assassin's Creed Black Flag have been circulating for months, and Ubisoft appears to have quietly confirmed what many fans had suspected. In a recent update on the future of the Assassin's Creed franchise, the company hinted that a remake of the popular pirate adventure is in the works.

While Ubisoft has not revealed all of the details, the teaser strongly suggests that a remake reportedly titled "Assassin's Creed Black Flag: Resynced" is currently in the works.

The hint came through an official franchise update written by Jean Guesdon, Ubisoft’s Head of Content and the former creative director of the original Black Flag. In the post, Guesdon addressed the many rumors surrounding the series and gave a playful response that quickly caught fans’ attention.

He wrote:

“Speculation around Assassin’s Creed is not new, but it's worth repeating: Nothing is true. Everything is permitted. Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon.”

The piratey language and a parrot emoji in the message made it obvious they were hinting at Black Flag. Plus, the update apparently had artwork mentioning “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced,” which only added to the buzz that the remake might actually be happening.

Fan-Favorite Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Game

Originally released in 2013, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is widely considered one of the best games in the franchise. The game follows pirate Edward Kenway as he sails across the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy.

Unlike earlier Assassin’s Creed titles that focused heavily on large cities and stealth in dense urban areas, Black Flag introduced a massive open sea. Players could explore islands, engage in naval combat, hunt for treasure, and command their own pirate ship.

The mix of exploring the seas and the classic stealth gameplay really made the game stand out, especially after the mixed reviews of Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed: Revelations in the previous years.

For a lot of fans, being able to sail around the Caribbean and take on enemy ships became one of the series’ standout highlights.

Why a Remake Makes Sense

A remake of Black Flag would not be unexpected. Even more than a decade after its release, the game remains extremely popular, and older Assassin's Creed titles are still selling well.

Ubisoft has also expressed an interest in revisiting classic titles in the franchise. With modern hardware such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, a remake could significantly improve the original experience by providing better graphics, smoother gameplay, and more features.

Leaks and reports over the last year have repeatedly pointed to a project known internally as "Black Flag: Resynced." According to some reports, it could be one of the several Assassin's Creed games that Ubisoft has previously delayed.

Other Assassin’s Creed Projects in Development

The Black Flag remake isn’t the only project Ubisoft is working on. The company confirmed updates on several upcoming Assassin’s Creed titles.

One of the most mysterious projects is Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, which is expected to offer a darker and more narrative-focused experience set during a historical witch trial period.

Another project, Assassin's Creed Codename Invictus, is described as a new multiplayer-focused experience for the series. Ubisoft says the game will explore a different approach to multiplayer gameplay in the Assassin’s Creed universe.

Meanwhile, Assassin's Creed Jade a mobile entry set in ancient China is also still in development. Ubisoft is reportedly experimenting with new features, including potential co-op gameplay.

Ubisoft Still Supporting Older Assassin’s Creed Games

Alongside teasing future projects, Ubisoft also confirmed updates for older titles. A free 60 FPS patch for Assassin's Creed Unity launched on March 5 for modern consoles, giving players smoother performance.

The company also revealed that multiple Assassin’s Creed games will be available during Xbox’s Free Play Days event from April 2 to April 6, allowing players to try several classic entries in the series.

When Could the Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake Release?

Ubisoft has yet to announce a release date for the rumored remake. However, the "keep your spyglass on the horizon" comment implies that an official reveal may occur sooner rather than later.

If the project is indeed in the works, fans may finally have the opportunity to return to the Caribbean seas in an updated version of one of the franchise's most beloved adventures.
