Bethesda's widely anticipated next-generation update for Fallout 4, published on Thursday, generated excitement among gamers eager to see the game's improved graphics and performance on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. However, the rollout has not been without issues, as a glitch occurred that bans gamers on Xbox Series X/S from enabling Quality mode, leaving them with Performance mode settings.

The free update for the PS4 and Xbox One versions includes Performance and Quality mode choices. Performance mode aims for smoother gameplay at a higher frame rate, whilst Quality mode promotes greater visual details. This option generally allows gamers to adapt their gaming experience to their preferences, however a problem in the Xbox Series X/S version prevents this.

Players swiftly observed that even after selecting Quality mode, the game continued to operate at 60 frames per second, similar to the Performance mode's performance rather than providing its intended visual changes. Thomas Morgan of Digital Foundry, known for breaking down game performance, confirmed the issue on Xbox Series X/S, verifying that Quality mode is still inactive owing to the error.

Morgan shared,

"Fallout 4 fans on next gen, I can confirm that only the 60fps Performance mode works right now, The update has a bug. Disabling the Performance mode seemingly does nothing. It stays at 60fps, and the resolution bound stays the same."

The discontent among gamers is visible, especially for those worried to immerse themselves in Fallout 4 rebuilt universe on their new consoles. While Quality mode appears to work as intended on the PS5 version, PlayStation users are experiencing their own set of issues, unconnected to the Quality mode error.

In response to questions and complaints, Bethesda has informed gamers that they are actively working to fix the Quality mode error on Xbox Series X/S. Furthermore, the company has announced intentions to make the upgrade available to PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers via the PlayStation Game Catalogue, providing a glimmer of hope for PlayStation owners looking for an easier transition to the improved version of Fallout 4.
