Capcom has announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be available on September 4, 2026, three weeks earlier than the previously scheduled September 25 release date.
The publisher confirmed the change as the second half of September continues to be packed with major game releases. The upcoming action game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
By pushing the release date to the first week of September, Onimusha: Way of the Sword avoids competing with several high-profile titles that were scheduled to arrive during its original release window.
Under the previous schedule the game would have been released shortly after or alongside Dune: Awakening, Control Resonant, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition, Hell is Us, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Hot Wheels Infinite Rush. With the new date, its closest competitors are The Blood of Dawnwalker and Orbitals, both set for September 3.
The release date change comes as publishers to continue reposition games ahead of an exceptionally busy release schedule. Industry expectations for the release of GTA 6 later this year have prompted several studios to shift titles away from highly competitive launch windows.
Capcom also updated its launch rewards. What was previously marketed as a pre-order bonus has been renamed the Early Bonus, and it will be available to players who purchase the game by September 24, 2026. Players who purchase the Standard Edition during the promotion will receive the Lion Dog Charm and the Sealed Curse Sword cosmetic appearance. The Deluxe and Premium Deluxe editions also come with the White Monkey Charm and White Lion Sword cosmetic appearances.
A free demo of Onimusha: Way of the Sword is now available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The demo shows an early portion of the game and introduces the combat mechanics. Players who have demo save data and then buy the full game will receive the Kubi Akari Charm as an in-game bonus.
Capcom also confirmed that digital pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be canceled due to the revised release date. Players who want to buy the game digitally on Switch 2 must place a new pre-order through the Nintendo eShop.
The game is now set to release worldwide on September 4, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
