Looks like Capcom is getting ready to drop some big news about their next Resident Evil remake, and word on the street is that Resident Evil: Code Veronica is finally getting a modern update.

Fans have been buzzing recently after Eva La Dare, the voice actress from Resident Evil 5, teased some "exciting news" for March, using hashtags such as #ResidentEvil5 and #RE5. This led many to speculate about a potential Resident Evil 5 Remake. However, a trusted insider is now guiding everyone towards a different expectation.

According to the well-known Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem, Capcom is planning to announce a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake later this year. The insider spilled the beans on social media, saying the project has been in the works for a while.

Dusk Golem has a solid track record with Resident Evil leaks and has been saying for a while that remakes for Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica are in the pipeline. Although Capcom hasn’t officially confirmed anything, the insider thinks Code Veronica is next up for an announcement.

Originally released in 2000, Resident Evil: Code Veronica debuted as a Dreamcast exclusive under the supervision of series creator Shinji Mikami, before later arriving on PlayStation 2 and GameCube. The game follows Claire Redfield as she searches for her brother Chris after being captured and imprisoned on a remote island. The story later shifts between the siblings as they battle the Umbrella Corporation and the unhinged Ashford family.

Capcom’s recent remake strategy has proven highly successful. Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 were all rebuilt for modern platforms, earning strong critical reception and selling millions of copies worldwide. With that track record, fans have increasingly viewed Code Veronica as the most logical next remake—especially given its importance to the overall storyline.

Rumors of a Code Veronica remake first surfaced in May 2024, with Dusk Golem repeatedly claiming the game is targeting a 2027 release window. The remake is said to feature Claire Redfield as the main protagonist, while still giving Chris Redfield a meaningful role in the story.

As for the reveal timing, Capcom typically announces new Resident Evil projects during the first half of the year, making Summer Game Fest a likely venue. If the reports are accurate, the game could launch in early 2027.

Meanwhile, Capcom is preparing to release Resident Evil Requiem on February 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The upcoming title promises intense combat, classic survival mechanics like Ink Ribbons, and a darker tone. Director Koshi Nakanishi has teased more surprises ahead of launch—though a demo is not expected.
