Crystal Dynamics shocked fans at The Game Awards 2025 with a double announcement: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst—two big projects that are going to influence the renowned franchise's future.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be released in 2026 and has been described as a recreation of the original 1996 classic. The game, co-developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog, is powered by Unreal Engine 5, which has new visuals, level concepts, and mechanisms.
The first teaser shows Lara's new outfit, complete with her characteristic teal top and long hair, and promises the return of fan favorites like the dual pistols and the classic T-Rex battle. A grapple hook also appears, confirming that the game will not be a direct remake, but rather a modernized version that retains the spirit of the original.
Tomb Raider: Catalys
Tomb Raider: Catalyst, set to launch in 2027, is a brand-new game that sends Lara to Northern India after a mythical disaster occurs. The game's story centers around ancient protectors, secret powers, and rival treasure hunters competing for control of hidden knowledge that has been buried for centuries.
Initial details suggest the game explores ideas like time shifting, but specifics about the gameplay are not yet revealed.
Catalyst is designed to be a more story-driven experience with intense challenges, as Lara faces tricky choices and dangerous situations to stop a catastrophe that could reshape the world.
Crystal Dynamics originally confirmed development on a new Tomb Raider using Unreal Engine 5 back in April 2022. Despite multiple layoffs over the past two years, the studio appears to be moving forward strongly—with two major titles now in active development.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis releases in 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, while Tomb Raider: Catalyst launches in 2027 on the same platforms.
