Hideaki Itsuno, the director of Dragon's Dogma 2 has informed potential players that no prior experience with the franchise is required to fully enjoy the upcoming sequel in an interview with GamesRadar. The game, set to be released on March 22, 2024, will feature a protagonist who begins with amnesia eliminating the necessity for gamers to have previously played the first installment to understand the story.
Itsuno highlighted that, while Dragon's Dogma 2 works features from its predecessor, such as the plot and companion Pawns, the protagonist's amnesia would serve as a narrative device, allowing players to discover the original Dragon's Dogma's background alongside the main character.
Itsuno said,
"The game starts off with a main character who has lost their memory. We have characters around you [explaining] things to get you up to speed. So even if this is your first time playing Dragon’s Dogma, you can safely dive in."
The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC will all be able to play Dragon's Dogma 2, providing players who are eager to explore the fascinating world of this cult action RPG sequel with a wide range of platform accessibility. A wide range of players are probably drawn in by the director's guarantee that those who haven't played the original game may still enjoy the game without any difficulties.
Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi highlighted the main idea of Dragon's Dogma in a presentation in November, saying,
"Dragon's Dogma is a tale of the Arisen, whose heart is taken by the dragon."
He continued by explaining that although the game's environment is preserved in the sequel, it takes place in a different reality and promises to be both interesting and novel for fans of the first game and for those who have never played it before.
Players will experience a unique and fascinating journey when Dragon's Dogma 2 releases on March 22, 2024, knowing that everyone is welcome, regardless matter how well-known they are from the original game.
