EA Confirms GRID Legends Server Shutdown Date

Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that GRID Legends' online services will be permanently discontinued on September 11, 2026, ending multiplayer racing, cross-platform competition, and several community-driven features that have been active since the game's release.

The decision is a significant milestone for the Codemasters-developed racing game, which debuted in February 2022 and quickly gained popularity for its cinematic storytelling and user-friendly arcade-style racing mechanics.

What Features GRID Legends Will Be Lost?

According to EA's official shutdown notice, several key online features will stop working once the servers go down. Players will no longer have access to:

• Online multiplayer races.

• Cross-platform Matchmaking

• Quick Race Online Modes

• Dynamic events.

• Global Leaderboards

While the game itself will remain playable, much of its competitive and social aspects will be lost forever.

The online servers of GRID Legends will be shut down, but the game's offline content will remain available. Following the server shutdown, players will be able to access and enjoy the full single-player experience, including the popular Driven to Glory story mode.

Driven to Glory was one of the game's most notable features, with live-action cutscenes and a distinct documentary-style story. Even after the campaign's online services end, players who have not yet completed it will be able to play through all of the offline content.

EA Adds GRID Legends to Online Services Shutdown List

The announcement was made after EA updated its Online Services Shutdown page, which tracks titles that are set to lose online support.

The newly added entry specifically includes:

• PlayStation 5

• PlayStation 4

• Xbox Series X|S

• Xbox One

As of now, EA has not provided any details about the future of the PC version which includes Steam players. The company has also not stated whether any online functionality will remain available on platforms not covered by the current notice.

Questions Remain About the Nintendo Switch 2 Version

One of the biggest questions is about GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition for Nintendo Switch 2. This version was released later than the PlayStation and Xbox editions, in early 2026. Since EA's shutdown notice only mentions the PlayStation and Xbox platforms, it is unclear whether Switch 2 players will lose online access on the same date. EA has not provided an official update on the future of online support for this version.

Although GRID Legends did not become as popular as other racing games, it did attract a loyal fan base. Players enjoyed the combination of arcade-style racing, realistic graphics, and various types of race events.

With the end of multiplayer support, the game's competitive community will no longer exist online. Only the single-player mode will remain, and fans will have until September 11, 2026 to use online features before the servers are permanently shut down.

EA's decision to retire GRID Legends online services will result in the removal of multiplayer and community features from the PlayStation and Xbox platforms later this year. While the single-player campaign will remain playable, the game's online racing ecosystem will be discontinued after more than four years of service.
