Electronic Arts has apparently lay off off an unknown number of staff from its Battlefield production teams, despite the fact that Battlefield 6 became the best-selling game in the United States by 2025.

The layoffs affect several studios under the Battlefield Studios banner, including DICE, Criterion Games, Ripple Effect Studios, and Motive Studio. According to reports, the job losses would affect hiring decisions across all departments and offices, while the exact number of affected employees has not been published.

EA described the layoffs as part of a “realignment” within the Battlefield organization.

“We’ve made select changes within our Battlefield organization to better align our teams around what matters most to our community,” EA said in a statement. “Battlefield remains one of our biggest priorities, and we’re continuing to invest in the franchise.”

All four studios will remain operational as they continue supporting Battlefield 6 as a live-service title.

EA Mixed Reception After a Strong Launch

Battlefield 6 had an outstanding launch earlier this year, with over 747,000 concurrent gamers on Steam. However, engagement has fallen since then, with recent highs of roughly 67,000 gamers on Valve's platform.

Steam user evaluations have also shifted from "Mostly Positive" to "Mixed," with gamers criticising elements such as extensive monetisation, the usage of generative AI cosmetics, and slower-than-expected content updates. In response to feedback, the development team recently delayed Season 2 to allow the developers more time to roll out upcoming updates.

EA has also posted a three-month roadmap highlighting planned upgrades as the studio tries to address community complaints while maintaining momentum for the long-running shooter franchise.
