Electronic Arts (EA) appears to have withdrawn the entire FIFA game series from digital marketplaces on several gaming platforms upsetting gamers. This action, which was originally observed by Twitter user MauroNL, affects all FIFA titles, including last year's FIFA 23, and is no longer accessible for purchase on platforms such as the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Nintendo eShop, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
Surprisingly, EA's FIFA 23 website has yet to be changed to reflect this change, instead redirecting customers to non-functional links or store pages for products that are no longer available. Despite its withdrawal from digital marketplaces, FIFA 23 can still be played by individuals who have a current EA Play membership. The exact time of the removal is unknown.
A statement on the FIFA 23 Steam page reads, "At the request of the publisher, EA SPORTS FIFA 23 has been unlisted on the Steam store and will not appear in search." The game was formally removed from Steam on September 21, 2023, only a day before EA released the first episode of its new football series, EA Sports FC.
Although EA Sports FC 24 is set to be released on September 29, consumers who purchased the game's Ultimate Edition have had access to it since September 22. EA's action comes after the company announced in May that it will be ending its nearly 30-year connection with FIFA and launching a completely new football series.
However, some fans have expressed dissatisfaction with the new EA Sports FC 24, claiming that it does not represent the significant shift from FIFA that they had hoped for. While hardcore Ultimate Team players may find some satisfaction, some argue that the remainder of the game has been treated as an afterthought in the move away from the FIFA licence. The future of EA's football game endeavours is unknown, but this move has surely rocked the gaming world.
