Playground Games has finally given Fable fans a significant new look at the upcoming RPG, with an 18-minute gameplay demo revealed at Gamescom 2026.
The extended gameplay moves players to Albion and highlights several features that will distinguish the new Fable experience. The gameplay, which includes exploring Bowerstone's streets as well as combat, stealth, and dialog sequences, provides a much clearer picture of how the adventure will unfold.
One of the most eye-catching scenes is a quest featuring Humphry the Golden, a legendary character who becomes involved in the Hero's Journey. The demonstration shows how players can approach situations in a variety of ways, with conversations and decisions playing an important role alongside traditional combat.
Bowerstone also appears to be a significant part of the experience. The city is populated with NPCs who have their own homes, personalities, hobbies, and daily lives, making Albion feel more like a living world than a collection of quest paths.
The gameplay also features Fable's combat system, which includes melee attacks, ranged weapons, and magic. Stealth gameplay provides players with another option when dealing with certain situations.
Fable's release date has been confirmed for February 23, 2027, following a delay from the previously planned window. The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, with Game Pass support.
