Naoki Hamaguchi the director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, has spoken out about what he hopes to do after the long-running remake project is completed. While many fans expect him to lead a remake of another classic Final Fantasy game, Hamaguchi says he wants to take on a completely new RPG challenge.
The director is currently working on Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third and final installment in the remake trilogy. The title is set to be released in Spring 2027, bringing an end to a project that has been in the works for more than a decade, dating back to the remake's announcement in 2015.
In a recent interview, Hamaguchi stated that his top priority is to bring the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series to a satisfying conclusion before looking into future projects.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Director Responds to Final Fantasy 6 Remake Requests
Over the last few years, many fans have called for a remake of Final Fantasy 6, with some hoping Hamaguchi will lead the project. The legendary RPG is widely regarded as one of the franchise's best games, making it an appealing candidate for a modern remake.
However, Hamaguchi suggested that if a Final Fantasy 6 remake were to be developed, it would be better handled by another Square Enix creator. While he appreciates the fans' enthusiasm, he believes the company has many talented developers capable of tackling such a large project.

His comments may disappoint some players who expected him to jump right from one remake to the next, but they also suggest that the director prefers to experiment with new ideas rather than revisit old ones.
Naoki Hamaguchi Interested in Creating a New RPG
Instead of working on another remake, Hamaguchi has stated that he hopes to create a new large-scale RPG after Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is released. He did not specify whether the project would be related to the Final Fantasy franchise or a completely new intellectual property.

According to the director, working on a new RPG would be an exciting opportunity to push himself creatively. He went on to say that creating a game outside of the Final Fantasy series could be just as exciting as working on a new installment in the iconic franchise.
Hamaguchi stated that one of the most difficult aspects of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy was balancing nostalgia with innovation, ensuring that the original game's beloved characters and emotional story remained intact while modernizing the experience for today's players.
With Final Fantasy 7 Revelation concluding the trilogy in 2027, Hamaguchi appears ready to move on to a new RPG project, potentially a fresh Final Fantasy title or an entirely new franchise.
