Square Enix has officially announced that Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 on July 23, 2026, giving fans another chance to play two classic Final Fantasy adventures on Nintendo's latest console.
The Switch 2 version includes several new quality-of-life improvements. Players can use the high-speed mode to move through the game more quickly, making exploration and battles less time-consuming.
Another significant addition is the ability to turn off random encounters. This feature allows players to freely explore the world without being interrupted by battles, giving them more control over their gameplay experience.
Square Enix has also released a new trailer highlighting the game's updated visuals. The character models, monsters, and environments have all been enhanced in full HD, and the soundtrack includes remastered music tracks.
Final Fantasy X, which was originally released on PlayStation 2, follows Tidus and Yuna's journey through the world of Spira. Final Fantasy X-2, the sequel, continues the story and introduces a unique battle system that allows characters to switch jobs during combat.
Since its initial release, the HD Remaster collection has been available on a variety of platforms, including PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch. The Switch 2 edition will also include content from the international versions of both games.
According to the Nintendo eShop listing, the game will cost $49.99. Square Enix has confirmed that save data from the Nintendo Switch version will not be transferred to the Switch 2 edition, and no upgrade option has been announced at this point. Japan will also see the release of a physical Game Key Card on August 27, 2026.
