Fans of Ghost of Yotei: Legends can now look forward to no more major updates. Sucker Punch Productions has confirmed that the multiplayer mode's most recent Raid update will be its final large-scale expansion, marking the end of the supernatural online experience linked to the critically acclaimed PS5 exclusive.

The announcement was made in a recent PlayStation Blog post by lead designer Darren Bridges, who detailed the studio's plans for the future of Legends. While servers and current content will remain playable, fans should not expect any significant gameplay updates in the future.

Ghost of Yotei: Legends Reaches Its Final Chapter

The Legends mode which debuted earlier this year alongside Ghost of Yotei, expanded the samurai action formula by introducing four-player co-op gameplay inspired by Japanese folklore and mythology. Players banded together to face terrifying supernatural interpretations of the Yotei Six, legendary enemies with deep ties to the single-player campaign.

The final Raid update, released in April, concluded the story arc involving the remaining members of the Yotei Six. According to Bridges, the update was intended for use as the mode's definitive conclusion.

“The Raid update was our last major planned update for Legends,” Bridges explained. “It finishes the story of the Yōtei Six in that mode.”

The Raid is also described as a tight teamwork experience with combat, puzzle-solving, and survival technical skills.

“It’s like an escape room where people are trying to kill you,” Bridges said, describing the challenging endgame content.

Players must work closely with their teammates to overcome difficult encounters, making the Raid one of the most demanding multiplayer activities in the game.

What Happens Next for Ghost of Yotei?

Although Sucker Punch Productions has discontinued major updates for Ghost of Yotei: Legends, the online mode will remain active. Players can continue to enjoy raids, missions, and co-op gameplay with their friends for the foreseeable future.

Many fans believe this reflects Sony's new approach to first-party games. Instead of supporting multiplayer modes for several years, studios appear to be more concerned with moving on to their next big project as soon as possible after launch.

Some players compared it to Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which also did not receive significant DLC updates. This surprised longtime fans, as Ghost of Tsushima: Legends received over a year of post-launch support after its release.

Erika Ishii Hints at a Possible Return

Despite the end of new multiplayer content, the Ghost of Yotei franchise's future looks positive. Earlier this year, actress Erika Ishii, who plays protagonist Atsu, expressed a desire to return to the role.

“Atsu will always have a special place in my heart,” Ishii said during a recent interview.

Erika Ishii stated that even after years of working on the game, they still feel deeply connected to the character Atsu. Many fans have speculated that the Ghost of Yotei universe may return in future sequels, spin-offs, or expansions.

Ghost of Yotei: Legends quickly became one of the most popular multiplayer games of 2025 among PS5 users. Its particular mix of samurai action, Japanese horror, and team-based gameplay quickly established a strong and loyal player base.

Even though major updates are wrapping up sooner than expected, players still have plenty of content to enjoy, including the difficult Raid finale. As Sucker Punch Productions moves on to new projects, many fans hope the studio will return to the Ghost of Yotei universe someday.
