GTA 6 is finally set to release on November 19, 2026, but only for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. For PC gamers, the wait continues—and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has explained why.
In a recent Bloomberg interview, Zelnick clarified that this decision is not new or unusual—it is part of Rockstar's long-standing strategy. According to him, the studio prioritizes console releases because that is where its "core audience" is. In simple terms, Rockstar focuses on offering the best possible experience to its largest and most loyal player base before expanding to other platforms such as PC.
Rockstar's Console-First Strategy Continues
This approach may frustrate PC gamers, but it is consistent with Rockstar's past. Rockstar Games' major titles have almost always been released first on consoles, with PC versions following months, if not years later.
For example, GTA 5 was released on consoles in 2013 but not on PC until 2015. Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a similar pattern with a 13-month delay. The most extreme case was Red Dead Redemption, which was only released for PC in 2024, 14 years after its initial release.
Zelnick stressed that Rockstar is not ignoring the PC market. In fact, he acknowledged that PC gaming has grown significantly over the years, with some major titles now receiving up to 50% of their sales from PC users. Still, when it comes to blockbuster releases like GTA 6, the company believes that beginning with consoles is the safest and most effective approach.
No Console Exclusive Deal Just Tradition
There has been speculation that a marketing deal with Sony could influence the release date, particularly given PlayStation strong advertising of the game. However, Zelnick dismissed the idea of an exclusivity agreement, claiming that this is simply how Rockstar has always handled its releases.
What about GTA 6 pricing?
Zelnick also addressed concerns about the game's price, which has been a hot topic among gamers. While he did not provide an exact figure he denied rumors that GTA 6 would cost significantly more than standard AAA titles. Pricing has not yet been confirmed, but more information is expected closer to the launch date.
What Does This Mean for PC Players?
For PC gamers, this will most likely result in a familiar waiting game. While no official PC release date has been announced, history suggests it could arrive anywhere from several months to a couple of years after the console's release.
With marketing expected to begin in mid-2026, more information about GTA 6 including potential PC plans should be available soon. Until then, console players will be first in line when one of the decade's most anticipated games is released.
