The Halo universe may be preparing for a major comeback, with new reports indicating that Halo 2 and Halo 3 remake are already in the works. The announcement comes as thrills rises for this year's remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, which will be rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5.

According to well-known Halo insider Rebs Gaming, multiple sources have confirmed that work on the second and third installments of the original trilogy is "actively underway," albeit in its early stages. According to the report, these projects will continue regardless of how well the upcoming remake, Halo: Campaign Evolved, performs when it is released.

Early Development and Long-Term Vision ( Halo 2 and Halo 3 Remake)

According to reports, the information was gathered from two different sources. One provided proof to back up their claims, while another had previously shared unreleased footage from Campaign Evolved. Together, they depict a concerted effort to rebuild the original Halo trilogy for modern platforms.

Interestingly, Campaign Evolved itself could act as a link between titles. The remake is said to include three new prequel missions featuring Brutes, an enemy type first introduced in Halo 2 and Halo 3 Remake. This move appears to be intended to maintain continuity throughout the remade trilogy while also subtly introducing elements that will play a larger role in after entries.

There are also reports that Brutes could appear in the original Combat Evolved missions via a new Skull modifier, providing longtime players with a new twist on familiar gameplay.

More than Just Remakes

Aside from the trilogy revamp, Halo Studios is rumored to be working on a new multiplayer-focused experience and the next mainline Halo title. While official details are scarce, the studio—formerly known as 343 Industries—confirmed in 2024 that it was working on multiple Halo games built with the Unreal Engine 5.

This represents Microsoft's broader strategy to reinvigorate the franchise, both technically and creatively.

What to Expect from Halo Campaign Evolved

Halo: Campaign Evolved set to be released in 2026, is a full remake of the original campaign built with modern technology. It will have sharper 4K visuals, smoother animations, improved audio, and newly recorded dialogue. There is also additional story content to enhance the experience. The game is set to be released on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation 5, which is a significant step because it marks the first time a Halo title will be available on a Sony console.

It will also support Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere, and will be available on Day One with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. While Microsoft has not confirmed an exact release date leaks suggest a late July launch, with early access starting a few days earlier. Because this is not official it is best to approach the timing with caution.

A Defining Moment for Halo

If these reports are accurate, Halo may be entering one of its most ambitious phases yet. Revisiting the original trilogy with modern technology and expanding the universe with new content could help the franchise reconnect with long-time fans—and attract a new generation of players.
