In a sudden turn of events, Arrowhead Game Studios has quietly sent a new challenge into the universe of Helldivers 2. Despite the lack of mention in the game's recent patch notes, players are now faced with frightening opponents in the shape of giant bat-like creatures known as "Shriekers."
According to reports from Windows Central, these frightening animals, which emit piercing screeches while divebombing and slicing at players with their sharp claws, have been spotted in select missions, notably in regions where Shrieker Lairs are indicated as side objectives.
Although players have been quick to share their experiences and engage in discussions regarding these new the air threats, Arrowhead has remained tight-lipped, declining to freely confirm their presence at this time.
Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead, laughed at the claims, saying, "I've heard stories of flying bugs in @helldivers 2. I'd like to officially dispute such outrageous statements. Everyone understands that 'bugs can't fly'. And I am not alone in thinking this." He went on to say, "The Ministry of Truth agrees that this is propaganda from bug sympathizers that want to brainwash good people."
The development of Shriekers coincides with the recent reveal of completely armored mechs in the Helldivers 2 community. These frightening robots are equipped with chainguns as well as rocket launchers, giving them great firepower.
Adding to the excitement, Helldivers 2 fans can look forward to the game's latest premium Warbond, "Cutting Edge," which will be released on March 14 for PS5 and PC. According to Arrowhead, this exclusive anti-alien keep will include a variety of explosive weaponry, prototype armor, popular capes, player cards, emotes, and utility boosters, providing an improved gameplay experience this month and beyond.
