Fans of Mafia: The Old Country have an appealing reason to return to the streets of Lost Heaven. Publisher 2K has revealed that a significant free update for the game will be released tomorrow, November 20, delivering a slew of new features that increase both gameplay and repeat value.
The "Free Ride" upgrade adds a number of additional activities and quality-of-life features. Players may look forward to automobile and horse racing events, combat-focused challenge modes, and a first-person driving perspective, which fans have been wanting for years. The update now includes a fully featured Photo Mode, which makes it easier than ever to capture cinematic moments throughout the world.
Those looking for a more challenging experience will like the reintroduction of Classic Difficulty, which raises the stakes with deadlier firefights, stricter resource management, and a more realistic police presence. In addition to the gameplay enhancements, new weapons, charms, vehicles, and character outfits will be unlocked across all activities.
On the PlayStation Blog, Josh Zammit, associate creative director at Hangar 13, emphasized his team's pride in the content that fans will soon get. Zammit Said:
“We’re super proud of everything the team has achieved, so I find it hard to pick one that I’m most excited about. I love the races; it’s a ton of fun to drive around our world at high speed in the amazing old cars. There’s loads of technical corners, and the better you get, the more satisfying they are to navigate. The Combat Challenges are great as well. Standoffs push your limits when it comes to openly engaging enemies, and Assassinations are fun to experiment with until you nail that perfect run.”
Zammit also teased one surprise hidden in the update—something that players will have to discover for themselves.
“There is one piece of content I think players are going to find especially intriguing and unexpected, though I don’t want to spoil it,” he added. “Keep an eye out for notes in Enzo’s apartment—one may end up revealing something cool to investigate.”
Tomorrow's Free Ride update appears to be a must-play for both seasoned players and newcomers, with a plethora of new features and an intriguing find just waiting to be discovered.
Mafia: The Old Country is currently accessible on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation; the update will be released globally on November 20.
