Ember Lab has announced that Kena: Bridge of Spirits will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 later this Spring 2026, bringing the critically acclaimed action-adventure title to Nintendo fans.
The game was first released in September 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC, before becoming available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in 2024. However, the original Nintendo Switch was the only major platform that did not receive the game. With the upcoming Switch 2 version, that gap will be filled.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits Complete Edition for Switch 2
According to Ember Lab, the Nintendo Switch 2 release will include the full version of the game with all major updates. That means players will get the Anniversary DLC, additional gameplay features, and the New Game+ mode right from the start.
The Anniversary DLC adds several new features to the game, including:
Spirit Guide Trials, which introduce new combat challenges.
Charmstones, special modifiers that change how abilities work during battles.
New outfits for Kena, giving players more customization options.
Accessibility features, making the game easier to adjust for different play styles.
New Game+ also returns, allowing players to replay the adventure while keeping previously unlocked upgrades, outfits, and abilities. The mode also introduces tougher enemies and new combat encounters for players looking for a greater challenge.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits Story-Driven Adventure
The third-person action-adventure game Kena: Bridge of Spirits centers on Kena, a young spirit guide who assists lost souls in transitioning to the afterlife. Players travel through a mysterious and corrupted world full of abandoned villages, historic ruins, and spirits in need of direction.
An important part of the experience is exploration. Spirit Mail, which can be collected by players and delivered to the Rot, opens up new locations throughout the map. Charmstones, on the other hand, offer potent bonuses and gameplay adjustments that can significantly alter the course of battle.
The game's combat can be surprisingly difficult, requiring players to carefully learn enemy patterns and strategically use Kena's abilities, despite its lighthearted and whimsical art style.
Ember Lab on Bringing the Game to New Players
Ember Lab COO Josh Grier said the studio is excited to bring the game to a new audience.
“We’re incredibly excited to bring Kena’s journey to a whole new audience, giving players the chance to experience her story at home or on the go with Nintendo Switch 2.”
He added that the continued support from players since the game’s original launch has meant a lot to the development team.
Strong Debut for Ember Lab
Kena: Bridge of Spirits marked the first major video game release for Ember Lab, which was originally founded as an animation studio by brothers Josh Grier and Mike Grier.
The game received generally positive reviews from critics and currently holds scores above 80 on review aggregator Metacritic, with praise often directed toward its Pixar-like visuals, emotional storytelling, and satisfying combat system.
What’s Next for the Series
The Kena franchise is also expanding. Ember Lab recently announced a sequel, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, which is currently scheduled to release later this year for PlayStation 5 and PC.
Meanwhile, Nintendo players will soon get their first chance to experience the original adventure when Kena: Bridge of Spirits launches globally on Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2026.
