Sony's gaming strategy may be changing greatly, as new reports suggest that future PlayStation single-player titles will remain exclusive to PS5 consoles rather than being released later on PC.
According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, PlayStation executive Hermen Hulst announced at a recent town hall meeting that Sony intends to keep its narrative-driven first-party games exclusive to PlayStation hardware in the future.
If true, this represents a significant shift for Sony, which has spent the last several years bringing major PlayStation franchises to PC platforms following their console launches.
PlayStation Moving Away From Delayed PC Releases
Over the last six years, Sony gradually expanded its presence on PC by releasing popular PlayStation exclusives such as:
God of War
Marvel's Spider-Man
Ghost of Tsushima
The Last of Us
Horizon Zero Dawn
These PC versions typically arrived months or even years after their original PS5 launches. Sony saw the strategy as a way to increase revenue while introducing PlayStation franchises to a larger audience. However, this approach appears to be changing.
According to reports, upcoming single-player titles include:
Ghost of Yotei
Saros
Marvel's Wolverine
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet
are expected to be exclusive to PlayStation consoles indefinitely.
Why Sony Is Reportedly Ending PC Ports
Sony's reported decision is primarily based on business strategy and console sales. While the first few PlayStation games released on PC did well, subsequent titles reportedly sold fewer copies and were criticized for technical issues and poor optimization.
According to previous reports, Sony executives were concerned that bringing too many exclusive games to PC would weaken the PlayStation brand. If players know that every major title will eventually be available on PC, they may feel less compelled to purchase a PS5.
According to sources familiar with Sony's plans, the company believes exclusive single-player games will continue to be important for selling PlayStation hardware. That is why future titles may only be available on PS5.
Multiplayer Games May Still Launch on PC
Interestingly, Sony's reported strategy move seems to focus only on single-player story-driven games, while multiplayer titles are still expected to be released on multiple platforms, including PC, as games like Helldivers 2, Marathon, and Fairgames continue to target larger cross-platform audiences.
Sony reportedly sees multiplayer games differently because larger player communities help keep players engaged for longer periods of time while also generating more ongoing revenue, and the huge success of Helldivers 2 on PC likely influenced the company's decision to continue bringing live-service and multiplayer titles to various platforms.
Ghost of Yotei PC Version Reportedly Cancelled by Sony
One of the report's most surprising findings is Ghost of Yotei. Earlier reports claimed Sony was working on a PC version of the game before cancelling it this year.

This would be very different from Ghost of Tsushima, which was later released on PC years after its PlayStation debut and became popular among PC players.
For many gamers, Sony's most recent reported decision suggests that the company may no longer use its strategy of bringing major single-player PlayStation games to PC in the future.
Sony Prioritizing PS5 and Future Console Sales
Sony's renewed focus on exclusives appears to be related to preserving the value of the PlayStation brand and console business. According to reports, the company believes that exclusive games are important for keeping players in the PlayStation ecosystem.
For years, industry experts have debated whether releasing PlayStation games on PC at launch will hurt PS5 sales. If gamers can play every major title on PC right away, many may no longer see the need to purchase a PlayStation console.
By keeping large single-player games exclusive, Sony can make the PS5 and future consoles seem better to buyers. Upcoming titles such as Marvel's Wolverine could be among the first major examples of this new strategy.
For PC gamers, the reported change is disappointing after years of Sony bringing more PlayStation games to the PC. Many players expected most first-party PlayStation titles to be released on the platform, but this is now uncertain.
If Sony sticks to this strategy, gamers may need a PS5 to play future single-player exclusives. However, the company is expected to release multiplayer and live-service games across multiple platforms in order to reach a larger online audience.
