After years of waiting, Marvel’s Wolverine finally has a confirmed launch date. Developer Insomniac Games announced that the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusive will release on September 15, 2026.

The reveal came without warning. There was no big showcase or long presentation just a short social media post confirming the date. While fans already knew the game was targeting Fall 2026, this is the first time a specific day has been locked in.

Wolverine was first revealed in 2021 during The Game Awards, with a brief cinematic teaser. Following that, the project remained mostly quiet for several years. It wasn't until 2025 that players got a good look at the game during a PlayStation State of Play presentation, where gameplay footage showed Logan in brutal close-quarters combat.

That trailer made one thing clear this is not a light superhero adventure. The tone is darker, bloodier, and more mature, staying true to Wolverine’s violent comic book roots.

Marvel’s Wolverine Mature Story

Unlike Insomniac's work on Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Wolverine will tell an entirely new story centered on Logan's troubled past. The game is described as a single-player, story-driven action adventure.

Players will travel to various locations, including the Canadian wilderness, Japan, and the infamous island of Madripoor, which is a well-known setting in X-Men lore. The plot revolves around Logan's efforts to uncover secrets from his past that continue to haunt him.

The cast will also include familiar Marvel characters. Mystique has already been teased, but Insomniac has yet to reveal the full lineup.

Australian actor Liam McIntyre is set to be the voice of Wolverine. You might know him from his starring role in the later seasons of Spartacus. Plus, he's voiced some big-time video game characters in series like Gears of War and Star Wars.

Perfect Timing Before GTA 6

Interestingly, the September release gives Wolverine breathing room before GTA 6 launches in November. That spacing should allow the PS5 exclusive to dominate headlines and sales during the early fall window.

You can't pre-order yet, but you can add the game to your wishlist on the PlayStation Store.

Now that the release date is set, Marvel’s Wolverine is looking like one of the biggest PlayStation games coming in 2026. Stay tuned for more info and probably a closer look at the gameplay soon.
