Microsoft Considers Xbox Spin-Off as Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Halo Development Accelerates

According to multiple industry reports, Xbox is entering a new era under CEO Asha Sharma, who is said to be committed to revitalizing Microsoft's gaming division through strategic restructuring, tighter resource allocation, and a stronger focus on blockbuster franchises.

One of the most significant developments is Microsoft's reported consideration of spinning off Xbox as its own wholly owned subsidiary. While no immediate plans have been announced, sources familiar with internal discussions say the company is considering several options that could give Xbox more operational independence.

Under this structure Xbox would have more control over budgeting, business strategy, and long-term planning. According to industry analysts, the move may also make future partnerships, joint ventures, and potential investment opportunities easier to pursue.

Microsoft has successfully operated other major businesses as subsidiaries, such as LinkedIn and GitHub, demonstrating that the model is not new to the company.

Asha Sharma's reported strategy focuses on delivering major game releases to players more frequently. According to sources, Microsoft intends to invest more heavily in its most popular franchises while reducing support for underperforming projects and studios. Because the company's gaming budget is expected to remain fairly stable in the coming fiscal year, resources will most likely be reallocated within the organization rather than significantly increased. This could help to accelerate development and reduce the long gaps between releases that some major franchises have experienced.

Fallout and The Elder Scrolls two of Bethesda's most successful role-playing game franchises, are among those expected to receive more attention. Interest in Fallout has skyrocketed following the success of Amazon's Fallout TV series, which introduced the franchise to a much larger audience. At the same time, fans have been waiting for a new mainline Elder Scrolls game for more than ten years, since Skyrim's release.

While Bethesda Game Studios is still primarily focused on developing The Elder Scrolls 6, Microsoft's leadership is reportedly eager to expand work on both franchises as soon as possible. Recent comments from Xbox executives have also fueled excitement for The Elder Scrolls 6, with some describing the game as visually stunning after seeing internal demos.

A major question about Fallout's future is which studio will create the next game. Since Bethesda is focusing on The Elder Scrolls VI, many fans believe Obsidian Entertainment, which created the popular Fallout: New Vegas, will return to the series. Obsidian is regarded as a good choice if Microsoft wants a new Fallout game sooner, given its extensive RPG experience and recent successes such as The Outer Worlds. Although nothing has been officially announced, fans continue to speculate about a new Fallout spin-off or a New Vegas successor.

Microsoft is reportedly focusing on the Halo franchise as well. Five years after the release of Halo Infinite, fans are still waiting for a new mainline title. Halo is regarded as one of Xbox's most important brands, and company executives want it to resurface as a top-selling system title. Accelerating Halo's development could help strengthen Xbox's lineup of exclusive games in the coming years.

Although Microsoft has not officially confirmed any restructuring plans, reports indicate that the company is considering significant changes to Xbox.
