Microsoft has increased the prices of Xbox Series S and Series X consoles for the third time in less than a year. The new pricing will go into effect globally on August 1, 2026, as the company battles rising memory and storage component costs.

Gamers looking to purchase a new Xbox console will soon have to pay a high price. Microsoft has confirmed a new round of global price increases for its Xbox Series S and Series X lineup, with some models costing up to $150 more beginning August 1, 2026.

The company also announced the discontinuation of the 2TB Xbox Series X Galaxy Black Edition, removing the highest-capacity model from its current console lineup.

Under the new pricing, the Xbox Series S & Series X consoles will see major price hikes in most storage variants.

  • Xbox Series X 1TB (Disc Drive): $799.99 (Up $150)

  • Xbox Series X 1TB Digital Edition: $749.99 (Up $150)

  • Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Edition: Discontinued

  • Xbox Series S 512GB: $499.99 (Up $100)

  • Xbox Series S 1TB: $599.99 (Up $150)

The latest price increase means that the standard costs $300 more than it did when it first launched in 2020, while the entry-level Xbox Series S has increased by roughly 50% since its release.

Microsoft stated that it attempted by communicating with its suppliers for several months. However, the company stated that it had no choice because the cost of critical components such as memory chips and storage has risen around the world.

The company also stated that memory and storage by more than 2.5 times in recent years and may rise even further by 2027. Because game consoles are typically sold with very little profit, higher production costs have forced Microsoft to raise Xbox console prices.

This is Microsoft's third price increase since May 2025. Because of increased production costs, the company raised prices globally in May 2025 and again in the United States in October 2025. With hardware components becoming more expensive, Microsoft has announced another global price increase.

In addition to the price increase, Microsoft to make Xbox consoles more affordable. Customers can use Buy Now, Pay Later plans, receive up to 12 months of interest-free financing from Amazon, or purchase Certified Refurbished Xbox consoles at a lower price. The company will also expand its trade-in program, allowing players to exchange old consoles for refurbished models at a lower cost.

Microsoft claims the Xbox Series S is still gaming console and will support upcoming titles such as GTA 6, Gears of War: E-Day, and Halo: Campaign Evolved. However, with the Series S now priced at $499.99 and the Series X at $799.99, many gamers may find purchasing a new Xbox more expensive. Microsoft hopes that financing options and refurbished consoles will make the consoles more affordable.
