New Look at Exodus Gameplay Shows Off Weapons, Exploration, and Story Choices

Wizards of the Coast has finally pulled the curtain on Exodus, its promising sci-fi RPG, giving fans a first look at gameplay ahead of its planned 2027 release. Archetype Entertainment released the new trailer, which provides a brief but promising look into combat, traversal, and the game's mysterious world.

The footage, which is under two minutes long, depicts a live combat scenario starring the main character Jun Aslan and his friends Tom and Elise. The encounter takes place on the outskirts of Lyonesse, where teamwork and positioning are are critical. Players can witness the use of a variety of futuristic weapons, each with its own set of functions that allow for exact and strategic combat.

The game's traversal system is one of the trailer's highlights. To navigate hazardous surroundings and scale environments, players use a tool known as a railclaw. Exodus boosts players to slow down and take in the scale of the world around them. The travel mechanics appear to merge fluid movement and strategic positioning, particularly in high-risk encounters.

The trailer also shows that the game isn’t just about combat. In one short scene, Jun enters an ancient Celestial temple on the planet Khonsu. The huge structures and detailed design suggest a deeper story connected to powerful, long-lost civilizations. It also shows that exploration and atmosphere will be a big part of the game.

Exodus was created by a team with many years of in RPG development. Former BioWare developers, who worked on iconic titles such as Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, now work at the studio. The project also includes writer Drew Karpyshyn and actor Matthew McConaughey.

Exodus set 40,000 years in the future, will look at how humanity has evolved over generations. Players will have to make difficult moral decisions that will have an impact not only on immediate outcomes but also on entire timelines. According to the developers, decisions is going to echo throughout history, shaping relationships between human and alien factions with different objectives.

More gameplay footage is expected in the following months, leading in a larger showcase this summer. These previews will go deeper into the fighting systems, environmental design, and character interactions.

Exodus is set to release in early 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
