CD Projekt Red has surprised The Witcher 3 fans with a brand-new remaster, and the best part is that current owners will not have to pay for it. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, which includes significant visual and gameplay improvements, will be released on September 29.

The new version, announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live, aims to upgrade the 2015 RPG while retaining the massive open-world adventure that made Geralt of Rivia a gaming icon.

The original Witcher 3 received a major next-gen update in 2022, but CD Projekt Red claims the upcoming Remastered edition will go much further.

What’s New in The Witcher 3 Remastered?

The biggest changes aren't just in graphics. CD Projekt Red is also reworking several gameplay systems that have remained largely unchanged since the game's initial release.

The remaster will include improved visuals, redesigned combat, improved traversal, upgraded monster behavior, and new ending animations. Geralt's movement will also be smoother, and riding Roach should feel more natural due to improved controls and animation.

The skill tree will also be redesigned, and the game will include transmog options that allow players to change Geralt's appearance without changing his gear's stats. The updated photo mode will also provide players with new ways to capture and share beautiful moments from The Witcher 3's world.

For new players both expansions will be included with the full game. This makes the September release an excellent opportunity for anyone who has never played Geralt's adventure to complete the Witcher 3 journey.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will be released on September 29, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, and will be available for the first time via Battle.net. The remaster will also support the upcoming Songs of the Past expansion, which is scheduled for release in 2027.
