Following the release of its free demo Capcom upcoming action title Onimusha: Way of the Sword has sparked intense interest in the community, but one topic has dominated discussions: the game's difficulty. While many players praised the combat mechanics and visual presentation, some longtime Onimusha fans felt the demo lacked the challenge that has come to define the series.
In response to the growing feedback, producer Akihito Kadowaki addressed the issue directly in a message to fans. According to Kadowaki, the demo was purposefully designed to be more accessible than the final version of the game, allowing players to experiment with a broader range of combat abilities without encountering the full level of difficulty planned for release.
CAPCOM Explains Why Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo Feels Easier
The Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo provides a brief glimpse into the game's beginning, but producer Akihito Kadowaki stated that the demo does not fully represent the final experience. He revealed that Musashi has access to several advanced abilities in the demo, which are normally unlocked much later in the story.
According to Kadowaki, these additional skills were added so that players could experience more of the game's combat system during the demo. As a result, enemies may feel more at ease than expected. He assured fans that the full game would include tougher Genma enemies, more challenging boss fights, and battles that would put players' combat skills to the test.
Hello, everyone! I’m Producer Kadowaki. Thank you so much for playing the demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword! We’ve heard the feedback that the demo felt too easy for some people. First, the demo is just a slice of the early part of the story. Also, we really wanted you to enjoy a variety of Musashi’s actions. So we intentionally equipped him with some late game skills. Because of that, some players might have felt a lack of challenge. Rest assured, in the final game, the bosses and the regular Genma will put up a tougher fight. Please look forward to the challenge in the full game.
Full Game Will Be More Challenging
Demo players frequently criticized enemies' low damage output as well as their lack of aggression during fights. This was especially noticeable when fighting larger groups as enemies frequently gave players plenty of room to attack and recover.
Capcom claims that the final version will provide a more balanced experience with enemies putting more pressure on players and encouraging strategic use of the game's combat mechanics. If the demo's diverse skill set is any indication, players can expect more difficult battles requiring an understanding of multiple fighting techniques and abilities.
Despite concerns about the demo's difficulty interest for Onimusha: Way of the Sword remains high. Capcom announced that the demo had already been downloaded over a million times across all platforms. Players also commended on game's combat system, particularly how enemies react to attacks, the environment, and each other during battles, creating excitement for one of Capcom most anticipated action games of the year.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be released on September 25,2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a free demo already available for players to try. Capcom has promised that the full game will be much more difficult than the demo with tougher enemies, harder boss battles, and a combat experience that more closely resembles the classic Onimusha style that fans have been waiting for.
