Rockstar Games recently announced an increase in the subscription pricing for its GTA+ service, sparking discussion among gamers worldwide. GTA+, which was released to much fanfare in March 2022, provides subscribers with access to a selected collection of Rockstar titles, as well as exclusive advantages for GTA Online players such as more in-game currency, vehicles, cosmetics, and access to special events.
The monthly cost of the GTA+ subscription has increased from $5.99 / €5.99 / £4.99 to $7.99 / €7.99 / £6.99. This represents a significant 33% increase in the US and Europe and a notable 40% increase in the UK. Notably, the business only offers monthly billing and does not offer choices for multi-month or annual memberships.
GTA+ offers popular games such as Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition for Xbox and PlayStation, GTA: Liberty City Stories for iOS and Android devices, GTA: Chinatown Wars for mobile platforms, and the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
Rockstar's strategic decision comes as fans await the arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is set to hit the next-generation PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms in 2025. The developer has been progressively increasing its GTA+ offerings, most recently adding Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare DLC, and expects to include titles such as Bully and LA Noire in the near future.
This announcement from Rockstar coincides with Electronic Arts' decision to modify the pricing for its EA Play subscription program. EA Play's regular tier now costs $5.99 / £5.99 per month, up from $4.99 / £3.99, while the annual subscription rate has been raised from $29.99 / £19.99 to $39.99 / £35.99.
As the world of gaming evolves, these pricing changes reflect industry trends and the continued efforts of firms such as Rockstar and Electronic Arts to create better gaming experiences while responding to changing market realities.
