Before beginning work on the much awaited Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Rocksteady Studios, the well-known developer behind the critically acclaimed Batman Arkham series, was apparently well in the process of creating a unique multiplayer game.

The studio's journey under Warner Bros.' ownership was illuminated by details from a recent Bloomberg article. It was revealed that, after Batman Arkham Knight's 2015 success, Rocksteady started work on two projects: Batman: Arkham VR and an unnamed multiplayer game set in an entirely new intellectual property.

The company Warner Bros. Montreal, which made Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights, had allegedly started working on a Suicide Squad video game, but by the end of 2016, the project was expected to be shelved. The Suicide Squad property was then offered to Rocksteady, and the following year saw the debut of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Regretfully, not much information has surfaced on the original multiplayer game, which Rocksteady eventually decided to shelve during this time. The Bloomberg study rejects earlier rumours that Rocksteady ever submitted a pitch for or worked on the creation of a video game with a Superman theme.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was supposed to launch on February 2, 2024, for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC through Steam. However, there have been a number of delays, and the PC version's release on the Epic Games Store has been pushed back to March 5.

After receiving negative feedback from fans over the game's initial requirement for an internet connection, Rocksteady confirmed that an offline option would be added after release. The hype for Rocksteady's most recent DC universe project is still high despite the failures.
