Sony is apparently planning to release a PlayStation 5 Pro console later this year, according to multiple gaming analysts. According to recent speculation, Sony wants to release the PS5 Pro in late 2024, featuring a proprietary DLSS-like solution. Analysts speaking with CNBC now say that a new version of the console is "likely" to enter the market in the second part of the year.
Serkan Toto, CEO of Tokyo-based games advise Kantan Games, said,
“There seems to be a broad consensus in the game industry that Sony is indeed preparing a launch of a PS5 Pro in the second half of 2024. And Sony will want to make sure to have a great piece of hardware ready when GTA VI hits in 2025, a launch that will be a shot in the arm for the entire gaming industry.”
Retailers in Europe are currently selling the first major PS5 Slim at considerable discounts. The price which was first listed in November at £479.99 / €549.99, has been temporarily lowered in a number of countries by £70 / €75. Sony originally planned to sell 25 million PlayStation consoles in the current fiscal year, which ends in March. However, the company has said that it expects to miss that goal by four million units.
According to a recent study, Sony's valuation fell by roughly $10 billion last week as a result of the updated PS5 sales estimate and a decline in its game division's operating margin. Senior principal analyst at Omdia George Jijiashvili suggested that this development would indicate Sony won't drop the price of the current PS5, as has historically happened when a Pro model is released.
