Fans of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl now have something exciting to look forward to. After months of anticipation, GSC Game World has finally revealed the game's first major story expansion, "Cost of Hope." The announcement was made during the latest Xbox Partner Preview, confirming that the survival-horror shooter's world will expand significantly in Summer 2026.
The Cost of Hope DLC will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (including Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG). While the release date is still several months away, the expansion is already shaping up to be a significant addition to the base game.
According to GSC Game World, this DLC is a large non-linear expansion that includes dozens of hours of gameplay. It continues Skif's journey as the main protagonist and introduces new storylines that coincide with the events of the original campaign.
One of the most exciting aspects of Cost of Hope is its focus on the long-running conflict between two iconic factions: Duty and Freedom.
Duty regards the Zone as a dangerous anomaly that must be eradicated at all costs.
Freedom, on the other hand, sees the Zone as a powerful gift that should be explored and utilized.
This ideological clash has always been central to the STALKER universe, and the DLC promises to increase it further. The fragile peace between these factions is falling apart, and players will find themselves caught in the center of a conflict in which every decision counts.
New Regions, Weapons, and Exploration
The expansion introduces two brand-new regions:
Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant - A legendary and previously sealed location is now open for exploration.
Iron Forest - is a mysterious, maze-like area full of hidden dangers and secrets.
Each region features its own hub, missions, side activities, and environmental storytelling. Players can also expect new weapons, gear, and survival tools to help them fight off deadly mutants, anomalies, and rival stalkers.
In addition to the DLC reveal, Xbox players have received a significant upgrade. STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl now supports Xbox Play Anywhere, which allows players to sync their saved progress and game ownership across multiple devices such as Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, handheld systems, and cloud gaming. This feature makes it easier than ever for players to jump back into the Zone wherever they are.
