CD Projekt Reveal Exciting Developments for The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel

The well-known game developer CD Projekt has revealed details about the highly anticipated follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher series in a new update.

In a statement to Reuters, Joint CEO Adam Badowski stated that the studio hopes to begin production on The Witcher 4, codenamed Polaris, this year. This future Witcher game, which was first revealed in March 2022, is expected to launch a new chapter in the franchise's legendary past. Since its launch in 2007, more than 75 million copies have been sold.

Using Epic Games' Unreal Engine instead of CD Projekt's proprietary REDengine, the game is being created, which is an important break from previous Witcher titles like Cyberpunk 2077. The company's decision to switch engines is more proof of its commitment to providing players with an outstanding open-world experience.

After finishing the research stage in May of last year, CD Projekt proceeded quickly into the pre-production stage, assembling a development team of about 330 people by November – more than the number of people on the Cyberpunk 2077 team. This is the company's largest team to date. By the middle of the year, Badowski told Reuters, the team wants to grow to about 400 people. Experts predict that The Witcher 4 will be out in 2026 or 2027.

Meanwhile, at CD Projekt's North American studios, the eagerly awaited Cyberpunk 2077 sequel dubbed Project Orion, is presently in the early "conceptual design" stages. By year's end, Badowski revealed, the company intends to have about eighty individuals working on the project. Co-CEO Michal Nowakowski made a suggestion that the sequel would include multiplayer components, opening up new possibilities for the Cyberpunk experience.

Interestingly, CD Projekt's follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077 was originally intended to be a stand-alone AAA Cyberpunk multiplayer game, but it was put on hold after the previous game faced release-related issues. Adam Kiciński, the Chief Strategy Officer and former CEO, highlighted the company's changing strategy, which is centred on integrating online features throughout all franchises.

Additionally, Nowakowski revealed the formation of a group tasked with researching the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the process of developing software. Nowakowski highlighted that artificial intelligence (AI) is viewed as a tool for improving specific areas of game creation rather than as a substitute for human creativity. The business had previously used AI to replicate the voice of a deceased actor, demonstrating CD Projekt's inventive advancements in gaming technology.
