Director Hideaki Itsuno recently stated that the upcoming Dragon's Dogma 2 for console platforms will have a different approach to graphical choices. According to industry expectations, Itsuno stated in an interview with Game Informer that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game will not include Performance or Quality options.
Itsuno highlights out that the frame rate is uncapped across all formats. He shared:
“The game has an uncapped framerate. We’re aiming to go at around or higher than 30 frames per second. That is for consoles as well. There are some functions that you can turn on and off, but there aren’t multiple sets of options that you can change at once.”
The statement signals a move away from the traditional graphic presets found in other games.
For fans who regularly monitor frame rates, the finding of an uncapped frame rate of about 30fps may raise questions. In today's gaming world, where many players expect a locked and stable 30fps, the lack of a restricted frame rate may result in variations, particularly during more demanding in-game scenarios.
Unlike most recent console games, Dragon's Dogma 2 appears to skip the inclusion of many graphics options for players to select. While not a required feature having many presets usually enables players to pick between frame rate and graphical quality. Itsuno's strategy raises concerns regarding the potential impact on performance during high-pressure times in games.
As Dragon's Dogma 2 moves from standard practices, it remains to be seen how players will react to this shift from the traditional graphics mode landscape. The lack of default options could be an important change for both casual and focused gamers, indicating an unusual approach in the game's development philosophy.
