Dying Light: The Beast has recently received one of its most ambitious updates and the best part is that it is completely free for all players. Developer Techland has officially released the Restored Land update, which introduces a new high-stakes way to experience the zombie apocalypse.
This is not just another content release. It's a complete change in how the game world works, making every decision feel permanent and every mistake more costly.
The Restored Land update's main feature is its ongoing world system. Unlike the base game, in which enemies and loot eventually come back this new mode introduces long-term consequences:
Zombies do not respawn once killed.
Loot and supplies will not regenerate.
Survivors can gradually return to cleared areas as they become safer.
This provides a unique sense of progression in a survival game. As players defeat infected enemies, they actively reclaim the world—zone by zone.
While the idea of permanently clearing areas sounds appealing, there is a major catch: resources are currently extremely limited.
The players will face:
Less supplies in containers.
Reduced shop inventory and higher prices
finite crafting materials
New survival mechanics, such as hunger management.
Limited flashlight batteries must be carefully conserved.
These changes bring the game closer to a true survival simulation, where foresight is just as important as combat skills.
For players seeking a greater challenge, the update includes a One Life mode in which you only have one chance to complete the game. If your character dies, all your progress is lost, and you must restart from the beginning. It's a difficult, high-risk mode, but those who complete it will earn special rewards.
Dying Light: The Beast Gameplay Improvements
Beyond the core gameplay overhaul, Restored Land brings a wealth of additional content to keep players engaged:
33 new quest encounters
Brutal new finishers for combat variety
5 hidden stashes scattered across the map
High-risk zombie encounters with better rewards
Roadkill Rallies, blending driving and zombie-slaying challenges
7 new achievements
Improved co-op gameplay and special infected fights
Numerous performance and gameplay enhancements
Co-op
Fixed the issue with enemy missing weapons when the peer approaches
Fixed the crash happening on specific’s car explosion
Fixed the issue with hatches and doors remaining closed for peers, and open for hosts, even though the animation takes place
Fixed the missing audio for shooting the crossbow by the peers
Fixed the issue with chasing Volatiles not despawning after chase ends
According to Techland, this update reflects a major upgrade in both the story and gameplay. For the first time, players can actually take control of the world rather than simply survive in it. As you permanently clear out infected areas, hope returns, with survivors returning and the world gradually rebuilding.
